Armed Forces Day takes place on the 28th June 2025 and we should take this opportunity to recognise the courage, dedication, and sacrifices made by the men and women of our Armed Forces. This day is not only about honouring past and present service members but also about acknowledging the impact they have on our communities and the invaluable skills they can bring to the Civil Service.
Here at Going Forward into Employment, we understand that transitioning from military to civilian life can be a challenging journey. Our mission is to provide Civil Service employment opportunities and support to veterans, reservists, service leavers and military spouses as they navigate this transition. During the last two years over 150 veterans & military spouses/partners have been recruited into the Civil Service via the GFiE Life Chance pathway for Veterans and Military Spouses/Partners.
The Value of Military Experience
Service in the Armed Forces develops a wealth of skills that are highly sought after in the Civil Service. Leadership, teamwork, problem-solving, and resilience are just a few attributes that military personnel acquire during their service.
These skills not only benefit individuals in their careers but also contribute significantly to an organisation's success, making veterans an asset to any workplace, and can sometimes be difficult for a Veteran to identify and understand how transferable they are into civilian employment.
The GFiE Pathway offers a far more accessible entry route into the Civil Service, removing as many barriers as possible.
Supporting Our Armed Forces Community
On Armed Forces Day, we recognise the unique skills and talent of our service personnel, and consider how they can be integrated into the workforce. By supporting the GFiE Pathway, the Civil Service can benefit from their discipline and strong work ethic while simultaneously supporting a deserving community.
Veterans and service leavers are able view any vacancies GFiE has to offer through the Career Transition Partnership (CTP) who are the official resettlement service providers for the Armed Forces.
Military spouses & partners are able to view vacancies through Forces Families Jobs who dedicate their support to the military family.
We also share employment opportunities nationwide throughout a network of third party organisations. If you feel that you or your organisation would benefit from receiving these vacancies, then please contact us at GFIE@cabinetoffice.gov.uk
Join Us in Celebration
We invite everyone to take part in Armed Forces Day activities in your local area, whether it’s attending parades, community events, or simply taking a moment to reach out to a veteran or a member of the Armed Forces community. Let us all express our gratitude for their service and commitment to our nation.
On this day, let’s not only remember the sacrifices made by our Armed Forces and the wider military family, but also commit to supporting them in their transition to civilian life. We will continue to create pathways to employment and ensure that the skills of our service members continue to benefit society and our communities.
GFiE Veteran & Military Spouse/Partner pathway
We would like to extend our appreciation to all who continue to help support GFiE , whether through the employment opportunities you provide, or by supporting us within our networks.
The GFiE life chance pathway for veterans & military spouses focuses on matching veterans and spouses with roles in the Civil Service.
If you would like to discuss providing employment opportunities within your department to the Veteran community, or via one of the other GFiE Pathways you can find more information at Civil Service Careers GFiE Pathways page, or you can contact us at GFiE@cabinetoffice.gov.uk
Finally, GFiE thanks all who serve and have served. Your dedication is truly appreciated.
